"Welcome Dancers... Here is your complimentary rose."

Louie St George was in charge of welcoming the dancers.

"I think I've finally ditched those evil balloons"

Bryan McWherter tried in vain to get away from the "evil" balloons, but they chased him throughout the entire event (according to Bryan anyway....)  I hear he's resting comfortably now in an undisclosed location.

    "
Anything you can do, I can do better.
I can do any thing better than you.
    No you can't.
    Yes I can.
    No you can't.
    Yes I can.
    No you can't.
Yes I can, yes I can.
    "

It all started out as a bitter rivalry between Guyton and Glen and digressed into a production from Annie Get Your Gun.

Judy McD's  contra dance done to YMCA was a huge flop.

"Hey, my new John Robinson Hawaiian Tropic Dance Skirts are only $35 and available at my vendor table."

I give John credit for his marketing ideas, even if some of them are a bit of a stretch.

"Oh, I see the dancers have given you a 'got rhythm?' shirt for the 3rd consecutive year now."

"Well first I wanted to thank everyone for my Dancer's Choice Nominations.  Thanks to everyone who emailed my name to the committee - including Rose Charles, Henrietta Clump, Doris Donetti, Sue Howard, Myra Longfellow, Joanne Gillespie, Arnie Zimmer....."

"Peter's been thanking people now for 2 hours.  Can we dance now?"

"Mmmm, you look mighty tasty".  "So do you".

Hmmm, despite what it may look like, something tells me this was just harmless flirtation.

"Hmmm, I really dig the smell of Whiskey & Cigarettes....."

    "Thanks for coming...."

Tampa Bay Classic
Nov 4 - 6
EVENT DIRECTORS: Arlene Winerman & Scott Hucks

Year #3 has completed for this event and it certainly can be considered to be a success.  A new and improved Hotel, larger dance floors and an excellent pair of DJ's highlighted the best of what I liked even better this year.

Arlene Winerman & Scott Hucks

Coming just one month after an event of my own (in part of course), I certainly can appreciate the hard work put into the Tampa Bay Classic.

Instructors for this event included:

Guyton Mundy Peter Metelnick & Alison Biggs Bryan McWherter
Neville Fitzgerald Vivienne Scott Mark Cosenza & Glen Pospieszny (Hey that's us!)
Dee Musk Junior Willis Marilyn McNeal
Judy McDonald Stella Cabecca Kathy G.
Bill McGee Big Dave Arlene Winerman
  Michelle Jackson

Plus Local Florida favorites: Nancy McDavid, Lindy Bowers, Debra Clecker, Charlotte Williams

I hope I included everyone....

So onward to the dances that I enjoyed watching and in some cases learning.

Get It While It's Hot - John Robinson: A very packed class for what I thought was one of John's all time best.  However, I never got to learn it, but Glen did and he can attest to that.  Fun music and not a difficult dance.  Definitely check this one out!

Push The Button - Peter & Alison: I thought this one was a little overshadowed at Windy City because we were focusing on two other hits - Pirates of Dance and Double XL.  Personally, I like this one even better than the Pirates and think it will get some mileage if folks don't have a limit to the number of dances they want to teach at one time by one (team of) choreographer(s).

Infernal - Glen Pospieszny: Most people missed out on this one perhaps because it was a 9am workshop, or perhaps because Glen is not yet a well known entity.  I got to learn this one and really enjoyed it.  I'd tell folks to learn this at the Vegas Explosion but he's up against my new one at the same time, so uh... no it's a really bad dance.  (giggle)

Trippin' - Neville Fitzgerald (Check out the video clip): Tricky but a fun dance once you get used to it.

The invasion of the "Brit Pack"

Other dances that really caught my attention in the demos: Bring It On (taught by Dee Musk), Coco Puffs (video), Run For The Roses (taught by Marilyn McNeal), You Can Try (Bill McGee) and One Bad Day (Vivienne Scott)

Previously mentioned dances taught included:

Careless Whisper (taught by Bill McGee)

Hernando's Hideaway (taught by Glen Pospieszny)

No Place To Go (taught by Stella Cabecca)

After Party & That's Life (taught by Kathy G.)

Feels So Good & Home (taught by Bryan McWherter) - both of these already taught to our Thurs Night Dancers here in Chi-town.

Lover Boy - Guyton Mundy

Clouds In My Eyes - John Robinson

My teaches included California Bounce, B. Squared Get Over Here! and my blast from the past Handsome.   Check them out at your convenience.

Open Dance was a lot of fun and Louie St George and Big Dave did a nice job of keeping the floor filled.  And Olivia kept all of the beginners happy in the alternate dance room. No, I didn't know them all, but I'm in Chi-town and there seems to be a lot of different dances out in Florida as is the case at every event.  The important thing was that Louie played California Bounce both nights of open dance.  After that I just left the room.  (I am kidding folks... it's fun to play a diva in theory only.....)

That's Vivienne Scott hiding behind the mic...

The dinner show was very enjoyable to watch and I'm sure you'll be hearing more about that from others.  Hotel was great - no complaints there.

Hats off to Arlene and Scott for another successful year!
